| From Harriet Bell 10:10 coordinator
Dear 10:10 organisations,
We kicked off this year determined to bring all those tales of carbon-cutting heroics out of the dark backrooms of facilities management offices and into the public to make sure they’re recognised and rewarded. We've heard some truly inspiring stories in the last few months, but a recent favourite is London Underground.
They've signed up 10 of the capital's key stations, and expect to save 500 tonnes of carbon and £70,000 by switching off unnecessary lights and having fewer escalators in use outside of peak hours.
LU are communicating their commitment to millions of passengers by displaying 10:10 posters in the busiest stations, and running awareness-raising 10:10 seminars with their energy champions.
Live energy monitoring
The Home Office and DECC now publish live energy and emissions data online, an approach that helped one local council cut its energy usage by 15% overnight! Thinking about trying it in your organisation? Read our Home Office guest blog to find out how they did it on the 10:10 website.
Last month, we wrote about the low-carbon refurb of Kyocera's green technology suite. Well, we've just had confirmation that our very own Eugenie Harvey will be lead speaker at their upcoming Green Card Conference – one of the first events to take place within its thoroughly-insulated walls! The conference will examine how you can meet your future emissions reduction targets through innovation, environmental management and employee engagement.
For more examples of how organisations like yours are reducing their emissions, check out our latest case studies or contact organisations@1010uk.org to discuss submitting your own.
