Communicating Conservation
There are many ways of communicating the conservation message and passing on information about zoo animals:
printed matter: guide books, animal information and interpretation signs, information sheets, quiz sheets;
audio-visual tools: slide shows, films, websites, videos and audio guides;
interactive presentations: touch tables, games, question-and-answer displays, press-button exhibits and computer games.

Education? Conservation? Extinction?
Education - a serious business for BIAZA zoos
Not all zoos in Britain and worldwide have the resources for the increasingly sophisticated and expensive technology found in museums and galleries such as computer touch screens, video and audio guides. However an imaginative and well designed information sign, a lively talk by a zoo keeper or presenter, an informative guided tour still rank amongst the most popular and effective ways to engage people’s interest and emotions.
‘Animal encounters, feeding talks and flying displays are other valuable educational tools, demonstrating an animal’s natural behaviour and skills for life, provided this is done without causing stress or compromising the animal’s welfare.
